Arrival - Colombo

Private airport welcome and transfer to a boutique city or heritage-style hotel. Evening soft city introduction with Galle Face Green, the heritage hospital precinct or a refined local dinner depending on arrival time. Overnight in Colombo.

Colombo to Sigiriya via Dambulla

Drive inland toward the Cultural Triangle. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple for ancient cave murals, Buddhist sculpture and guided heritage interpretation. Continue to a nature-style boutique resort near Sigiriya. Overnight in Sigiriya.

Sigiriya - Heritage and Village Table

Sunrise climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress with storytelling on the water gardens, frescoes, Mirror Wall and summit palace ruins. Afternoon village table experience with lake canoeing, paddy-field walking and clay-pot rice and curry cooking. Overnight in Sigiriya.

Sigiriya to Kandy

Travel through Matale spice corridor with an optional spice garden stop. Arrive in Kandy and visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic during ceremonial hours. Evening lake walk or cultural performance. Overnight in Kandy.

Kandy - Gardens, Craft and Colonial Calm

Visit Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens for orchids, palms and tropical garden scenery. Afternoon local craft experience with batik, gem craft or wood carving. Optional high tea or hill-view dinner. Overnight in Kandy.

Kandy to Hatton - Tea Highlands

Scenic drive into deep tea highlands through waterfalls and estate roads. Check in to a tea bungalow or boutique estate stay. Afternoon tea estate walk and guided tasting of high-grown Ceylon tea. Overnight in Hatton.

Hatton to Ella - Scenic Rail

Take a scenic rail or road-rail combination through the highlands, subject to train timing and seat availability. Arrive in Ella for mountain views, cafes and a quiet lodge evening. Overnight in Ella.

Ella - Highland Views

Morning hike to Little Adam’s Peak and visit Nine Arch Bridge, with the train crossing time confirmed locally the night before. Optional Ravana Falls, tea walk or village cooking class. Overnight in Ella.

Ella to Yala

Descend from the cool highlands into southern dry-zone wilderness. Afternoon private jeep safari in Yala National Park focused on leopards, elephants, crocodiles and golden-hour landscapes. Overnight near Yala.

Yala to Galle

Optional dawn safari or relaxed breakfast. Continue to Galle Fort for a guided walk through the lighthouse, ramparts, historic Reformed Church, old merchant houses, galleries and cafes. Overnight in Galle.

Galle to Colombo - Departure

Final morning inside Galle Fort for shopping, cafe stops or coastal photography. Transfer along the Southern Expressway to Colombo or Bandaranaike International Airport. Departure.

Practical Notes
  • Book scenic train seats 3 to 4 weeks ahead where possible
  • Yala Block 1 status should be checked from May to September – Udawalawe can be the substitute
  • Best season: year-round, with the driest Galle conditions from November to April
  • Fitness level: moderate – the Sigiriya climb is the most demanding element of the route
  • Comfortable closed shoes for the Sigiriya climb and Galle Fort’s cobbled lanes
  • A light shawl or scarf for temple visits
  • Layers for the cooler evenings in Hatton and Ella
